Fact of the Day: The Statue of Liberty’s full name is Liberty Enlightening the World.  Its torch was replaced in 1984 with a new copper torch covered in 24k gold leaf.  The color of the statue has changed overtime.  The infrastructure is iron but the exterior color is copper, resulting in oxidation, which has caused the statue to turn green.  The statue was a gift from France and commemorated the French and US alliance in the American Revolution.
