Women’s History Month: When everyone thinks of the month of March, many think MARCH MADNESS! While that is fun to watch, March is also Women’s History Month. At IW we will have a Women’s History-March Madness bracket all month long. Beginning today in your social studies classes you will learn about a few women each day that were/are significant to history. This will be important because each day you’ll vote on who you want to move on in our bracket. The bracket and names of our starting “Sweet 16” are downstairs on the bulletin board in the main hallway. Be sure to vote in your social studies classes on the women you want to move ahead to the championship at the end of the month!

Fact of the Day:   Today’s fact is in regard to Susan B. Anthony.  Susan B. Anthony played a prominent role in women’s suffrage, that means attaining the right to vote for women.  She was arrested for illegally voting in the 1872 presidential election.  In 1900, Anthony persuaded the University of Rochester to admit women by raising $50,000 in money and even cashing in her own life insurance policy to facilitate funding.  Because of her devotion to women’s suffrage, she was the first woman cast on a US piece of currency, a silver dollar.  Susan B. Anthony’s biggest legacy was the creation of the 19th Amendment of the US Constitution, which gave women the right to vote in the US, and was ratified by Congress 14 years after her death in 1906.
